Senior Backend Software Engineer - Fractional Trading

  We are creating a new software team in Belfast to work in Apex Clearing engineering department. The Senior Software Engineer will make technical decisions, understand the  problems,  and implement solutions to solve the firm’s challenges.    

  This team will work on building a highly available Fractional Trading Platform with high throughput and low latency through cloud infrastructure. The Fractional Trading team are free to explore unique solutions and try fresh ideas whilst writing a new system from scratch as we complete a rewrite of our fractional engine.

  You’ll be responsible for:   

  • Defining, developing, deploying and operating software that delivers real value to PEAK6 businesses. We often work with micro-services, managed by Kubernetes.   
  • Thinking through hard problems and solving them at all layers of the enterprise   
  • Developing and maintaining clean and consistent APIs for applications that are used internally and externally   
  • Writing self-documenting and well-tested code with an emphasis on sustainable development practices   
  • Working as a part of small, productive development team that puts an emphasis on code quality, peer reviews and strong engineering practices   
  • Helping grow the team. As one of the first PEAK6 team members in Belfast, you will help recruit the right talent and establish a culture that developers love to work in. Your coaching and mentoring will prove important in growing the Belfast Office   
  • Managing project priorities, deadlines and deliverables with your technical expertise  

  You’ll gain loads of experience in this role but before you do, you should have:  

  • Significant professional experience working as a part of a multi-person development team that utilizes automated testing, CI pipelines, peer reviews ideally in an Agile Environment   
  • A strong proficiency and in-depth understanding of programming language: Java. The project we’ll first take on is up to you using backend engineering and cloud experience (GCP)  
  • Demonstrated skills in software design   
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with high attention to detail   
  • Effective communication skills  
  • Adaptability: while you enjoy establishing process and standards, you understand the need to be flexible and enjoy trying new things
