Journalist: Sync NI

  • Sync NI is looking for an ambitious and talented journalist to join its highly respected editorial team. The vacancy is for an accomplished writer - ideally with some tech or business journalism experience - to assist in covering the tech industry through a variety of formats, with a particular focus on Northern Ireland’s business development. Applications from less experienced writers with a passion for technology and recently qualified journalism graduates welcomed.

    Established since 2011, Sync NI has grown rapidly into Northern Ireland’s largest technology community with a monthly reach of over 100,000 IT professionals and tech enthusiasts across our print, digital and social media channels. Sync NI’s mission is to share the latest news and showcase the incredible stories of the people and companies that are delivering the digital innovations that will ultimately define all our futures.

    Working with major technology companies, public sector departments and education bodies we are not only the leading source of the latest news in technology but also a rich content portal of interviews and thought leadership as well as a vital hub for information on local tech focused events and job opportunities.

    Successful candidates will be capable of putting forward new editorial ideas, conducting interesting interviews, editing press releases, creating engaging content and building media relationships with NI’s local tech scene. Sound news judgment is vital, along with an ability to put together articles that will be considered valuable by an extremely knowledgeable in-industry audience.

    KEY TASKS

    • Writing news and analysis for the website on a daily basis to a consistently high standard with an authoritative editorial voice
    • Editing and publishing relevant press releases on a daily basis
    • Contributing editorial content to the quarterly magazine as required
    • Light copyediting as required by the company
    • Conducting interviews with leading tech thought leaders and senior executives within the NI tech sector
    • Developing a broad range of contacts within the NI tech industry and attending industry events
    • Completing light administration work as needed to support the business

    KEY SKILLS

    • Interest in covering the tech industry as an independent journalist
    • Impeccable written and oral communication skills, demonstrated in qualifications or experience
    • Experience creating content for digital and social media channels  
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Proven time management, including working to inflexible deadlines, is a must
    • Copyediting skills, knowledge of content management systems, experience with marketing, and/or a proven track record in news writing is a bonus
    • Video/audio editing skills are highly desirable, but not essential
