    Your role in the team

     

    Platform Services is focused on the support of self-service tools and automated processes, which enable Allstate Developers and Testers to develop, test and deploy their code in line with the principals of Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) & DevOps.  Platform Services provides solutions across the organization supporting over 5000 developers.

     

    The role of the Senior DevOps Engineer is to support and provide self-service to Application Developers for enterprise level tools such as Jenkins, GitHub, Artifactory, SonarQube, Octopus Deploy and allow them to build pipelines.

     

    The technology is continually evolving, and we need an engineer who has a passion for DevOps to help define and implement its roadmap and work on its engineering team.

     

    Candidates must be self-motivated, curious and collaborative IT professionals who will continually learn and develop their skills.  Ideally you will have a strong background and experience in one or more of the following: Systems Administration, IT automation or Software Development.

     

    • Supporting and Architecting highly available and scalable Enterprise Continuous Delivery solutions.
    • Defining our strategy and working with peers and colleagues to drive enterprise alignment & adoption of current and new technologies.
    • Actively manage, communicate and market the strategy via the creation and maintenance of architecture blueprints, roadmaps and executive presentations.
    • Key contributor to Common Tools governance helping shape future direction and ensuring alignment with policy and strategy.
    • Drive quality solutions and outcomes through continuous improvement, mentoring and coaching of an engineering team.
    • Build, manage and operate the infrastructure and configuration of various components and tools that manage the software development lifecycle with a strong focus on automation
    • Write automated scripts to continuously improve the CI and CD pipeline, including evaluating products and stand up/demoing pipelines.
    • Develop policies, standards, guidelines, and related guidance for operations including continuity management, license usage reporting.
    • Establish and implement standards for build artifact management, such as security and performance reports and automated builds.
    • Support onboarding of developer communities onto tools stacks.
    • Monitoring and resolve environmental issues at multiple layers of deployment, from hardware, operating environment, network and application.

     

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

     

    • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in build automation or Windows / Linux Server administration or software development.
    • Experience using or supporting any of the following tools – GitHub, Git, Jenkins, SonarQube, Octopus Deploy or Artifactory Pro.
    • Excellent understanding of software development best practices such as Agile.
    • Passion for working with new technology and an aptitude for learning

     

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

     

    • Knowledge of at least one scripting language such as Groovy, Bash or Python
    • Familiarity with IT Operations (configuration management, logging and alerting, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis).
    • An awareness or knowledge of .NET, Java or Mobile packaging and deployment.
    • Understanding of cloud architectures and operations, security, automation and orchestration.
    • Working knowledge of Cloud enablement technologies such as AWS Cloud Pipelines, Docker & Kubernetes
    • Database experience
