    Allstate operate a very flexible hybrid working model with a blend of remote and office working for NI based employees.  Employees based in GB will be employed on a permanent remote working contract.

    Your role in the team

    Data is central to Allstate’s transformation of the customer experience. We are looking for passionate engineers to help build the next generation of data analytics and software solutions within the big data technology stack. We need a Claims MDM developer who will work collaboratively on Scaled Agile teams, and who loves interacting with different areas to design and deliver the next generation analytics platforms and applications which will ultimately transform how our customers view Allstate.

    As technical lead for Claim MDM you will be expected to be the Subject Matter Expert for the application and its key processes, which means you will need to be highly driven and comfortable learning new concepts and applying that knowledge with the goal of delivering a world class software product. In your day to day role you will be working closely with product owners & architects to review features for technical do-ability. You will then translate these features for the developers and guide them to ensure that code quality & best practices are maintained to the highest level. You will have the opportunity to enhance your technical skills, pioneer new technologies within D&IS and will be part of a global team of like-minded people.

     

    • Participate in inception and iteration planning meetings, infusing backlogs with technical input working in close partnership with the product owner and product engineering manager
    • Lead and participates in daily site, cross-site, and product team standups
    • Lead and participates in retrospectives; demonstrating and encouraging each participant to provide feedback with empathy
    • Partner in collaboration and strategy alignment across product portfolios (cross-product) in partnership with product managers, other peers and key stakeholders with the customer needs and wants in mind
    • Serve as an expert on the Claims MDM/Data Lake domains and a lead advocate of our technology stacks; share that knowledge across organizations
    • Participate in shaping the architecture and design of the products we build; actively help the team in choosing the right technology, and solving technical problems
    • Coach the team in writing software and building products
    • Lead and participate in knowledge sharing and contribute to the overall growth of the collective knowledge of the engineering community.

     

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

    • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK
    • 5 years’ experience in data engineering; or
    • 5 years’ experience in object-oriented coding and development  
    • Demonstrated experience with technical design and documentation; and
    • Demonstrated expertise in Agile development and tools to iterate quickly on product changes, developing user stories and working through backlog and
    • Demonstrated experience in coaching and mentoring junior developers and
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
    • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK

     

     

     

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

    • Scala Experience
    • Understanding of streaming toolsets such as Kafka, spark streaming
    • Familiarity with source control solutions (e.g. git, GitHub, Jenkins, Artifactory)
    • Hands-on experience developing and integrating with open source software platforms and languages
    • Experience developing large-scale distributed applications
    • Open to new ideas and technologies with a strong desire to learn
