Graduate Software Engineers

  • About Aflac

While Aflac are a Fortune 500 U.S. company and one of the largest brands in the US and Japan, there is a very good chance you’ve not heard of us (yet). Here’s the deal: We help people cover medical expenses beyond their standard health insurance, and when they come to us they really need us. So, in Belfast, we are building great technology to support our customers in their greatest time of need.

We are looking to create a centre for advanced technology in Northern Ireland that will be globally recognised for its adaptability and reinvention. We’re leveraging the latest technologies in the field of Cloud, DevOps, data engineering and data science to solve challenging problems for our customers.

If you want to learn new development languages, create new products, or infuse innovation into our cyber security platform – we should talk.

    The role

We want Graduate Software Engineers who get excited about new technologies, who are self-motivated to learn new skills; especially in the field of web & mobile development as well as getting hands-on with our enterprise development platform, Pega.

As part of our Agile teams, we will provide you with the training and the exposure to get you rapidly up to speed with our technologies and our data, and present you with technology problems that influence how we are making things better for our customers. We might be looking at trends in the sales data from our agents who sell Aflac’s policies, or using workflow automation to speed up how we process customer claims and get them the money they need as quickly as possible, or building chatbots that provide a virtual assistant experience to our customers and help them in their time of need.

Ultimately, we want the solutions you will build to provide data driven insights to our users, business partners and customers.  We adopt a “let’s try it!” approach to problem-solving and will be incorporating new approaches that feed into our innovation strategy.  So whilst you will be challenged (in a positive way) we want you to bring your ideas and imagination – we want to hear from you.

What you'll be getting involved in

    • Continually growing and developing your technical skills through self-learning, exposure to new projects, and being curious
    • Participating in daily stand-ups and contributing to an Agile development team that values the opinion of everyone in the team
    • Leveraging different software tools and technologies to build and test solutions for our stakeholders and partners in the US
    • Developing new features that will provide additional capabilities for our customers
    • Utilising a range of tools and technologies that vary depending on the product and the needs of the customer
    • Implementing unit testing and maximizing test automation, on all levels of code, as part of the SDLC
    • Solving complex problems alongside fellow team members

What you should have-what we're looking for

    • You should hold a computing or software engineering related discipline such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computing and be on track to achieve a minimum of a 2:1 classification at undergraduate level
    • Experience of working in the tech industry either on placement or in a full-time role would be beneficial but is not essential
    • You should be eligible to live and work in the UK.

Please note nterviews will be held in early June, after exams have finished.

So that’s us. Thanks for taking the time to read this far (pretty impressive in the era of the 280-character tweet). We look forward to hearing from you if you fancy joining an innovative tech company with the agility of a start-up and the stability of a Fortune 500 U.S. company.

Aflac Northern Ireland is an equal opportunities employer
