UX/UI Designer

  • The Team

One of the teams we are building will be responsible for developing one of Aflac’s flagship customer facing web/mobile. The app will allow our policyholders to interact with Aflac in a streamlined manner both via desktop and mobile in a tool that provides an exceptional customer experience and everything they need in one place.

We are in our second wave of recruitment to further build out our web/mobile app development team in Belfast, using Agile development practices to ensure we build high-quality software that puts our customers at the heart of the solution.  In addition to adding a UX/UI designer to our team we are fully functional with leadership, application development, API development, data engineering, and testing capability all located in Northern Ireland, and supported by project SMEs in the United States.

The team leverages design-thinking, and a customer experience persona-based approach, developing user stories, user flows and wireframes that can be leveraged not only for the app build, but also to ensure our business stakeholders understand what is being developed, and what is coming next.

    The role

We want a passionate and creative UI/UX Designer who wants to create world class web and mobile application experiences.  We want someone who understands what it takes to deliver exceptional customer experiences through front end apps, and who is motivated to learn new skills along the way.

Our web and mobile application is at the forefront of our digital strategy, leading the way for design led product thinking that puts end users (policyholders) first.  Our ideal candidate should have an eye for clean and artful design, possess unparalleled design skills, and be able to translate business problems into intuitive experiences and interaction flows.

    What you'll be doing

    • Produce creative, user centric app designs, user flows and design support for our application from end to end
    • Support the Product Owner and wider team on UX/UI strategy, idea generation and design
    • Working hands on with developers to challenge art of the possible and encourage seamless user experiences
    • Create low and high-fidelity design solutions for responsive web app user interfaces
    • Facilitating design led thinking sessions with our product team including Product Owner, development team and end users
    • Own the creation of all design assets for the team including UX/UI designs, assets, video edits, sales materials etc.
    • Having some fun along the way!

What you should have-don't worry if you don't have it all

Below is an overview of the skills and experience we are looking for, but remember, don’t rule yourself out if you don’t have everything on the list – it’s your intellect and your attitude we are really after.

    Essential

    • 3+ years working as a UX/UI designer in responsive web applications or mobile applications
    • A strong portfolio demonstrating clean, professional design
    • Passionate about designing user interfaces that are beautiful, easy to use and add value to the end customer
    • Strong hands-on design experience and proficiency using UX design tools e.g. Figma, Sketch, Zeplin, Adobe XD or the like
    • Ability to prototype wireframing flows and high-fidelity designs
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work well within a team environment, maximising the different strengths across the team
    • Natural intrigue and motivation to remain up-to-date with the latest UI/UX trends, techniques, technologies and user psychology
    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a digital design related subject. Comparable commercial experience may also be considered

    Desirable

    • Experience or ability in video editing, animation, and photography in addition to UX/UI design
    • Experience in designing apps for web, Android and iOS
    • Experience monitoring web/mobile app usage and leveraging data to inform future design
    • Experience working with a design system or UI Library
    • Experience of delivering as part of an Agile team for customers/clients located in different time zones
    • Other valuable technologies: Invision, After Effects, Premier Pro, Visio, PowerPoint (obviously!)

So that’s us. Thanks for taking the time to read this far (pretty impressive in the era of the 280-character tweet). We look forward to hearing from you if you fancy joining a new tech innovation company with the agility of a start-up and the stability of a Fortune 500 U.S. company.
