Digital Engineer – Systems Engineering

  • We are seeking to recruit a Digital Engineer focused on systems engineering. You will join us on a fixed term contract for 33 months or until 31 December 2023 (whichever is soonest), in the first instance. You will be working closely with industry partners utilising your digital engineering knowledge to leverage innovative and imaginative new process developments to further industry 4.0. You will be working on projects that will bring the opportunity to develop links and collaborate with other like-minded advanced technology centres within the UK and further afield, as well as with our industry partners and academic colleagues. This project, along with your direct input, will positively impact our local economy and bring new technical benefits to manufacturing industry. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated team player who is passionate about innovative technology and is interested in advancing their knowledge and experience in this area. 

    The Northern Ireland Technology Centre at Queen’s University Belfast, has been operating for over 50 years as one of the University’s primary links with industry. The NITC works at the interface of academia and industry, applying leading edge research to solve industry problems and advance manufacturing capability. As part of Queens University’s Advanced Manufacturing strategy to support economic development within Northern Ireland and beyond, an investment of £6M has been made to create an Advanced Manufacturing Technology facility in the NITC, with further investments planned. The Centre has built up a dedicated team of engineers working across a range of industry focussed innovation projects, covering areas such as CNC Machining, Metrology, Automation & Robotics, Digital Manufacturing and Engineering Design. One of our key growth areas is focussed on the application of Digital Engineering to support the adoption of Industry 4.0 enabled processes within manufacturing. This is one of the most exciting challenges facing manufacturing industries today and the NITC is driving to be at the forefront of how this technology can be developed and applied.

    The successful candidate should have strong experience in manufacturing execution systems (MES) or low code systems development and have designed, developed, tested, deployed and integrated a number of these solutions into a production environment. You should have a demonstrable background of integrating manufacturing applications with
    industrials systems

    The successful candidate must have, and you should clearly demonstrate this in your CV/Cover letter: 

    • Honours degree in computing, engineering, science, or a related discipline with at least three years’ relevant industrial experience OR minimum HND in a related discipline with at least five years’ relevant industrial experience
    • A minimum of 3 years recent relevant experience in Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or low code systems development
    • Demonstrable knowledge and/or experience in the integration of manufacturing applications with industrial systems such as IIOT platforms/PLM, MES or supply chain solutions
    • Demonstrable evidence of competence in the architecture of data flow from multiple sources, development of Apps, reports and dashboards to communicate data effectively to end user. 
    • Strong evidence of working within multifaceted environments delivering to deadlines and within budget.
    • Experience of using research tools and techniques resulting in high quality project and technical reports.

    Salary scale: £33,797 to £40,322 per annum
