    Your role in the team

    As a seasoned DBA you’ll collaborate in the evaluation, selection and platform design of emerging database technologies with concentration in the NoSQL and cloud spaces. At Allstate, we’re focused on developing out platform and that’s where you will come in. You will liaise, educate and advise business areas on platform selection, data design, enterprise strategy and data enablement, as well as lead internal project efforts to determine technical scope and execution plan in partnership with sister organizations like security, architecture and infrastructure.

     

    You will have the opportunity to analyze database workloads, identify problem spots and design solutions to address these problems using monitoring and alerting tools for cloud based and on-premise deployments. No two days are the same and we encourage you to streamline redundant operations and automate recurring tasks through scripting and use of modern technologies. Working closely with other business areas you will be given free reign when it comes to support initiatives in Agile frameworks across multiple business units and as our Senior DBA in this emerging technologies space we will want you to drive your career by educating and mentoring our more junior DBA’s.

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

    • Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a data professional
    • 3+ years in database management, testing, scripting and / or configuration
    • Knowledge across multiple data store platforms
    • Familiarity with Cloud providers (particularly AWS) and open source automation software.
    • Some programming experience (Shell, Python, Java, etc.)
    • Experience working on cross functional teams
    • All candidates must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

    • Experience evaluating, documenting, researching and implementing new technology  
    • Experience with one or more of the following NoSQL databases: MongoDB, Cassandra, Neo4j, Redis or Snowflake
    • Experience with a programming or scripting using one or more Unix Shell, PowerShell, Python, Java
    • Experience with 20+ TB databases
    • Experience of Agile or other project methodologies
    • Knowledge of one or more of the following technologies: GitHub, Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, Cloud Formation, Python, Kafka, Spark, Kubernetes, Docker.
    • Knowledge of AWS solutions involving database platforms.
    • Knowledge of CI/CD
