    Your role in the team

     

    Allstate Technology & Strategic Ventures (ATSV) team is embarking on a journey to shape the future in large scale security platform development for emerging technologies.


    The Research and Innovation team will engage with global academic research programs, as well as government, regulatory and standards bodies, to develop security and privacy technologies to future-proof Allstate’s platforms.  The team will research novel solutions, publish high quality research at international conferences, develop future products and enable evidence-based decisions on the strategic direction of current and future security solutions.

     

    As a Senior Research and Development Security Engineer, you’ll lead the development of security and privacy solutions in large scale platform development.  You will help establish and lead engagement with international university and strategic partner collaborations.  You will design mission-led research programs to help Allstate Information Security make evidence-based decisions on future and emerging technologies.  You will help develop the next generation of security engineering capabilities and talent within Allstate.  This role requires the ability to understand/ synthesize state-of-the-art research in emerging security and privacy technologies, such as cryptographic primitive, scheme and protocol design. 

     

     

    • You help lead the research and development of solutions for security and privacy technologies for our enterprise / Business platforms and applications
    • You will help establish and lead a secure development lifecycle for a research and innovation lab
    • You will be an active member of Research and Innovation team, developing Proof-of-Concept implementations and industry-leading security and privacy engineering solutions
    • You will actively assess state-of-the-art security and privacy technologies, identifying novel capabilities and make evidence-based recommendations for adoption
    • Provide assistance to engineer and implement new security tools to feed our continuous innovation process
    • Understand state-of-the-art and emerging security trends, technologies and future landscapes
    • You will take an active lead in engaging with university research programs, assist with preparing research proposals and mentoring PhD/masters students
    • Develop high quality research material for publication at major international conferences and journals
    • You will develop internal training programs for Allstate in security engineering best practice and emerging technologies
    • Ability to drive and communicate the adoption new security capabilities and solutions within the organization
    • Mentor and manage the work and development of junior security engineers
    • Serve as the interface to applications/cloud/security engineering, risk management and architect teams to ensure strategic alignment, and knowledge and technology transfer
    • Assist security-based projects throughout Allstate
    • Work alongside with the Senior Security Engineers/ Architects, and assist in Proof of Concepts and implementation of security solutions

     

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

     

    • Degree in electronic/software engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or related discipline with a high level of coding at a systems level
    • 5+ years’ experience as a Software Engineer or Security Engineer implementing solutions supporting architecture and applications
    • Experience with one or more of the following languages: C/C++, Java, .NET
    • Experience or knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Git, Jenkins, etc
    • Experience with Linux and scripting languages
    • Experience of mentoring and developing junior engineers
    • All candidates must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK

     

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

     

    • Completed or working towards a PhD with subject matter expertise in a relevant area 
    • Ability to publish research at industry leading conferences and in high quality journals, assist with preparing research proposals, and experience in working with academic research groups supporting knowledge and technology transfer
    • Experience of working with secure real-time processing design
    • Knowledge of cloud platforms (for example, AWS, Azure)
    • Knowledge of Big Data/Cloud architectures
    • Python, bash/shell scripting, make, Autoconf
