    Your role in the team

    This part of the organization is accountable for delivering technology products and solutions that drive world class customer experience and grow Allstate market share.  The organization is doing so through a portfolio of technology products consisting of new, intelligent capabilities leveraging the latest approaches in software engineering, user experience design, and cloud technologies. 

    This position will be accountable for a global Software Engineering organization of employee and vended resources in North America, Northern Ireland, and India.  This team builds, deploys, and manages a suite of technology products that support content management and delivery for Allstate.com, Agency Based Consumer Facing Sites, and other microsites (Purple Purse, etc.).  It also is responsible for Customer Facing communications and documents that support other brands within the enterprise. 

     

    • Deploy and build an Enterprise Content Management platform for Web Content Management.  Create a center of excellence for the platform which includes best practices, reusable components & capabilities, and governance.
    • Continue to deliver and support enterprise document generation and customer communications platform.  Seek opportunities to optimize delivery and reduce costs.
    • Create and leverage meaningful stakeholder relationships in order to identify and optimize business opportunities via partnerships in other departments.
    • Engage with application development teams, vendors and product managers to develop and launch solutions that are structured for stability, reuse and with customer experience top of mind.
    • Provide technical thought leadership and vision through strategic & critical thinking.
    • Provide coaching and guidance to managers in the development of themselves and their teams.
    • Identify opportunities to improve the approaches/processes in the delivery of technology initiatives.
    • Provide leadership in areas such as financial management, Human Resource management, vendor contract negotiations, engineering best practices, and other duties as required.
    • Drive collaboration to effectively partner in a matrixed organization with Product Management, Enterprise Architecture, and User Experience teams to create comprehensive and coordinated strategies.
    • Effectively lead estimation and costing of technology deliverables

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

    • All candidates must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK
    • Minimum of 5 years management experience in a software development environment, including accountability for all aspects of leading an organization including people management & development across multiple global organisations, finance/budgetary management, client/partner relationships, strategy planning and implementation, work processes and delivery of work products; and
    • Strong technical leadership abilities which should include a minimum of 2 years managing several first line managers
    • Proven ability in strategy planning and implementation which has had an impact on the technology direction for the division, business segment and/or enterprise
    • Proven ability to manage talent and skills transition within a global organization/team including development of skills succession planning and human capital planning
    • Previous experience of building and sustaining global relationships with business partners, stakeholders and vendors. 

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

    • 3rd level qualification (ideally within an IT related discipline)
    • Previous experience in an insurance environment – ideally at a leadership level
    • Strong experience in Agile delivery and DevOps concepts. Familiarity with current software development tools, technologies & techniques is a plus.
