    Your role in the team

    As a cloud platform engineer at Allstate you will be responsible for building the foundations of the corporate Transformative Growth strategy which underpins our journey to be Americas #1 insurance provider. You will be architecting, implementing, managing and growing Allstate’s cloud development environments both on-prem and with key platform partners AWS and Azure.

    As a senior engineer on the team you will be expected to have a strong voice in the development of future strategy across all of Allstate’s cloud platform (current and future) and also to mentor junior team members to ensure they fulfil their full potential.

    • Design and implement solutions to continuously deliver an enterprise software system hosted in Kubernetes.
    • Provision, configure, and maintain cloud resources using industry standard tools and technologies.
    • Build, manage and operate the infrastructure and configuration of various components and tools that manage the software development lifecycle with a strong focus on automation and infrastructure as code
    • Being a dependable and highly skilled development resource for peers through education and review.
    • Having a broad awareness of related projects and industry trends and encourages innovative practices amongst peers.
    • Advocates and models coding and collaboration practices, reviews team code, and provides team members with feedback and suggestions for process improvement.
    • Collaborates with other team members to establish new best practices and maintainable processes.

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

    • All candidates must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK
    • 5 years relevant working experience
    • 2 years’ experience using Kubernetes
    • Experience with GitOps and Flux
    • Experience with Teraform or Teraform Enterprise
    • Experience of scripted management of AWS or Azure environments
    • Experience with virtualized infrastructure (VMWare, AWS, Azure or GCP)
    • Experience with Docker or similar container solutions
    • Ability to code or script in at least one language (Java, Go, Python, Ruby, Perl, bash, etc.)

    We also have some desirable criteria

    • Experience using Elasticsearch
    • Experience of credential and certificate management
    • Experience using cloud monitoring solutions (e.g. Datadog)
    • Experience with Systems, Application and Network performance/availability monitoring and analysis
    • Expertise in problem solving and analysing global scale distributed systems
    • Clear evidence of troubleshooting and resolving issues in an application or PaaS environment
    • Strong experience of service restoration activities covering web front end, Systems, Databases and Networks (at least one of these areas is required)
    • Proven experience working with infrastructure components (operating systems, compute, storage, networking, distributed systems, big data, cloud, containers, etc.) and solid understanding of the rest and how they impact services
    • You have the ability to self-manage.
    • Work effectively across organizational boundaries.
    • You should be able to influence formally and informally
    • Passion for learning and working with new technology
