The candidate will work as part of a project team involving Queen’s University Belfast and Ulster University and be responsible for on-boarding researchers from multiple disciplines onto the Tier 2 facilities. You will work with researchers to gain a clear understanding of their research challenges, help them develop and optimise their code, and deploy existing applications onto the HPC cluster.
This is an excellent opportunity to work with both software and hardware. This is a high profile role across the University and you will be building relationships with various researchers across different areas. You will work closely with QUB, Ulster and National UK researchers so you can understand their requirements and work out their computing and capacity planning. As HPC is interdisciplinary in nature, you will work across many different areas such as Chemistry, Pharmacy, Global Food Security, Precision Medicine, Neuroscience and Hydrogen safety.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who would like to contribute to the design, development, management and support of research software applications. You will be working with a range of cutting-edge technology, having the opportunity to experience the systems side and the software side of computing. On the systems side you will administer clusters of computes nodes, high performance networking and large storage systems. On the software side, you will expand your software skills by using parallel programming.
This role will be part of the first Northern Ireland Tier 2 Facility and will have a significant impact for science, by expanding the use of HPC to new pools of talent and new areas of investigation for Northern Ireland. This is a full time, permanent position, working within a friendly and collegial team.
