    Job Description

    The Java Platform Enterprise Services team are a technical engineering team building the core Java platform for use in Allstate.

    The Lead Java Platform Engineer is an individual contributor with a comprehensive understanding of the J2EE specification and implementations such as WebSphere, Liberty, JBOSS, and Tomcat. The Engineer is responsible for implementing and supporting complex J2EE environments while introducing automation of core functions. Ideal candidates will lead the team in embracing new technologies including containerization of the platform and cloud deployments.

    Responsibilities include (but aren't limited to):

    • Provide technical stewardship of the J2EE platform
    • Ensure maximum availability of the Java environments throughout the company
    • Deliver expert-level support, problem determination, change/release management, performance analysis, and environment design for large, complex, and mission-critical J2EE environments
    • Provide automated solutions to deploy and support the platform
    • Identify opportunities to modernize the platform using the cloud and containers
    • Ensure compliance with industry and Allstate standards for design and security
    • Communicate offerings, standards, and best-practices to business clients through well-structured, concise documentation and/or presentations
    • Cross-train with others in the organization and continuously develop to stay ahead of the technology
    • Embrace Agile principles for delivery of services 

    Essential Criteria

    • Must be an EU citizen or possess a current UK Tier 1 Visa or Tier 2 visa and eligible to take up full time, permanent employment. EU candidates must also demonstrate they are eligible to take up UK employment post-Brexit.
    • Possess 5+ years of experience supporting complex J2EE environments
    • Expert knowledge of the IBM WebSphere J2EE platform (including ND and Liberty)
    • Experience creating automation using JavaScript and/or Python

    Desirable Criteria

    • Knowledge of Agile (Scrum) principles
    • Self-motivated, well-organized and able to thrive in an open, collaborative environment
    • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
    • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Cloud technologies is preferred.
