Security Engineer

  • The Team


    At Aflac Northern Ireland, we are building a diverse, multi-function Cyber Security Team to support our Global Security Program protecting our customers in the US & Japan. The Aflac NI Security Team has taken ownership of key components of the security program and are integrating with the Global Security Team to strengthen existing functions and build new capabilities.

    The Role


    As part of Aflac Nothern Ireland’s ongoing growth strategy, we are looking for an experienced Security Engineer to join our team. As a Security Engineer, you will help design and build our security infrastructure to ensure that security risks are managed, and compliance obligations are met.


    Your initial focus will be on securing the Aflac cloud environments, primarily in Amazon Web Services (AWS), as we migrate and manage critical business applications in the cloud. We are looking for individuals who are comfortable learning innovative technologies and building well-architected and re-usable security services.


    (Some of) what you will be doing:

    • Design, Engineer and configure solutions to scale cloud adoption securely and keep Aflac’s infrastructure, applications & data secure and compliant in the cloud
    • Develop and implement cloud security initiatives to ensure continuous alignment with security standards and requirements across all cloud environments
    • Develop cloud security services, mechanisms, and components as part of a shared service model
    • Provide cloud security engineering expertise to partner teams and socialise cloud security best practices
    • Monitor industry trends around cloud security to keep requirements and solutions in line with the threat landscape
    • Develop technical controls to effectively reduce the risk of cloud-based security vulnerabilities closely with the Architecture and Operations Teams to develop and implement roadmaps to enhance Global Security's capabilities
    • Act as the technical lead and subject matter expert on project teams, providing advice, knowledge sharing, and technical assistance to other team members
    • Utilise agile methodology by making iterative progress toward achieving individual, team, and organizational objectives. 

    What we are looking for (don’t worry if you don’t have it all):


    Essential

    • 3+ years of experience in related technology functions, such as infrastructure/cloud engineering or software development
    • Experience with AWS network & security offerings and capabilities
    • Experience building and deploying security solutions, preferably in a large financial services environment
    • Ability to think on your feet, innovate, and push the boundaries to provide creative solutions to problems
    • Ability to communicate with people at all levels and enjoy collaborating with others to achieve planned outcomes

    Desirable

    • Bachelor's degree in a computer-related discipline
    • Experience with securing cloud environments, primarily AWS
    • Experience working with security vendors and developing recommendations based on evaluating products and analysing functionality
    • Experience in coding, infrastructure as code and serverless technologies AWS, CISSP, CCSP, SANS certifications or willingness to achieve them
    • Experience with different Agile frameworks e.g., Kanban, Scrum 
    • Working knowledge of Jira & Confluence software development and collaboration tools
