  • Introduction

An internship at Allstate is an opportunity for you to experience what it’s like working as a Data Scientist in one of the leading technology companies in Northern Ireland. You will join a friendly team of peers, where you will learn on-the-job all the skills you need to thrive and succeed in an environment that encourages you to be your best self.

    About Us

Allstate is one of the largest car and home insurers in the US, serving more than 16 million households and earning over $35 billion in revenue annually. We’re also widely recognised as one of the best places to work in Northern Ireland.

At Allstate NI, we believe it’s more than just a job.  We believe in allowing our people to choose the direction of their careers.  It’s about you, your future and where you want to get to.

Opportunity is the hallmark of the Allstate career experience.  We invest heavily in our employees, offering long term career development, personal growth, and investment in new technologies.  Every day is different, with new ideas, challenges, and rewards — no matter which team you join.

We believe that inclusive diversity is crucial to creating a culture of mutual respect where the strengths and talents of each individual are recognised.  We like to leave things better than we found them and deliver results.  We do all of this while having fun and exploring personal passions.

At Allstate we’re on a mission to use data, math and machine learning to directly shape every aspect of how we operate. Of course, when working with hundreds of millions of data points, computer science and programming also play an essential role.

Join our team and you’ll find challenge and reward in a culture of innovation, support and balance.

    Nature of the Work

The D3 group is a central team that supports all areas of the enterprise. At any given time, there will be dozens of R&D projects in progress. As part of D3, you will join a team assigned to one of these projects, where you and your teammates will work together to solve a complex problem. Projects can range from developing a text recognition model to help insurance adjusters settle claims, to creating a neural net to recognize and categorise storm damage. Other projects include building GLMs to predict loss and creating transformer-based models to determine customer chat intent.

    The Team and the Role

Data, Discovery, and Decision Science (D3) is the research and analytics organization at Allstate. In D3, you’ll be surrounded by 360+ tenacious and intellectually curious colleagues in an inclusive culture that encourages you to take risks, challenge the status quo and shape the future for the greater good. We are solving some of today’s most complicated analytics problems, making the lives of our Allstate colleagues easier and more productive, and driving our mission to deliver targeted insurance solutions to our customers. We are partnering to incorporate analytics into every aspect of the enterprise.
