The AHUA annual spring conference 2017

The AHUA annual spring conference will be hosted by Ulster University, Monday 3 April - Wednesday 5 April 2017.

Ranked in the top 3 per cent of universities worldwide, Ulster University is one of the top 150 global young universities under 50. It is a modern, multi-campus institution delivering high-quality teaching informed by world-leading research.  Over 92 percent of Ulster University graduates are in employment or further study within six months of graduating, and this year Ulster University was recognised for the Most Improved Student Experience at the national Times Higher Education Awards.

LOCATION AND VENUES

Belfast is renowned as one of Europe's most friendly and fashionable regional capitals. Described by Lonely Planet as a 'must-see visitor destination', it was also voted one of the world's top 10 destinations by National Geographic Traveller 2012.

Referred to as a 'treasure with an incredible atmosphere', Belfast and Northern Ireland are home to internationally renowned tourist attractions, including Titanic Belfast, The Giant's Causeway and The Bushmills Distillery, while Northern Ireland boasts some great golf courses and stunning landscapes which are regularly seen as the backdrop to HBO's popular TV series, Game of Thrones.

The Spring Conference will take place at Titanic Belfast, the world's largest Titanic visitor experience (recently pronounced World's Leading Visitor Attraction 2016). Delegates will have an opportunity to explore this wonderful facility and its nine galleries before or after the conference.

The conference's evening functions will take place in two of Belfast's most iconic buildings, Parliament Buildings and Belfast City Hall. 

Parliament Buildings, commonly known as Stormont because of its location in the Stormont Estate, is the seat of the Northern Ireland Assembly. The welcome supper will take place in the 'Long Gallery', the location for political announcements and for receiving visiting dignitaries. 

Belfast City Hall is Belfast's civic building. Located in the heart of Belfast city centre, it first opened its doors in August 1906. The conference gala dinner will be held in Belfast City Hall by kind permission of the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Alderman Brian Kingston.

THEMES

The two day programme will provide a perfect platform to explore issues of common interest, share successful practices and experiences, debate new concepts in education with a view to increasing the level of our collaboration and collective impact.

Key themes for discussion will include the new regulatory environment, effects of Brexit, HE in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, international HE issues, governance and leadership development.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FEES

The registration fee for the 2017 AHUA Spring Conference is £425 + VAT. Delegates booking before February 28, 2017 can avail of an early bird rate of £390 + VAT. (Early bird rate extended until 3 March). Payment must be received by March 30, 2017. 

Registration fee includes two nights' accommodation at the four star Europa Hotel, participation in the 2017 Spring conference including light refreshments and lunch, and attendance at two evening functions - a welcome supper at Parliament Buildings and the gala dinner at Belfast City Hall. Transfers from the hotel to and from the conference and evening venues are also included.
