AI NI 2: Barclays AI Frenzy

Hi all, following the success of the AI NI launch event in March we decided that we should start planning for the sequel. This time AI NI are in direct collaboration with Barclays to deliver ‘AI Frenzy’, this represents Barclays first splash into the Northern Ireland meet up scene - Barclays have also been kind enough to provide the food and drinks! As before, we have brought together a fantastic set of speakers, including:

Chris Johnson (Adoreboard):
Chris Johnston, CEO of Adoreboard will present - The Future of Customer Experience is Emotion AI: Are you ready?

Customer experience (CX) is the new battleground for brands. To compete brands need to deliver the best possible CX to win and retain customers. Chris will provide practical ways in which AI is being adopted by leading brands based on Forrester's The Future of CX Measurement report which Adoreboard was showcased for its application of AI for CX.

Dr Jesus Martinez-Del-Rincon (QUB) - ‘Wide area tracking based on deep learning and Linear programming’
In this talk we present a video-based person re-identification system for wide area tracking based on a recurrent neural network Siamese architecture. Given short video sequences of a person, generated by a tracking algorithm, our video re-identification algorithm links these tracklets in full trajectories across a network of non-overlapping cameras in an open-world scenario. In our system, features are first extracted from each frame using a convolutional neural network. Then, a recurrent layer combines information across time-steps. The final linkage across cameras is performed using a Siamese network architecture.

Jesus Martinez del Rincon is presently a lecturer in the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Queen’s University of Belfast. He received a BSc in Telecommunication Engineering in 2003 and was awarded a PhD in Computer Vision in 2008 from the University of Zaragoza for his work into the development of tracking algorithms for video surveillance and human motion analysis.

Jason Brownlee (Hays Recruitment) - ‘Landing Your Dream Job in AI’
Emerging technologies such as robotics, machine learning, artificial intelligence and, augmented and virtual reality, are shaping the future of our jobs. Jason discusses the steps that we can take to discover that perfect job in AI and then, crucially, how to find someone willing to pay us to do it.

Jason is a senior recruiter working for HAYS Digital Technology in Belfast and specialises in data science and cyber security campaigns.

Claire Houston & Brian Hamil (QUB) - ‘Getting a Foot in the Machine Learning Door’
Brian and Claire are students at Queens University Belfast, this year they both undertook final projects that revolved around AI. This represented their first deep dive into Machine Learning, in this talk they will talk about the challenges they faced and discuss some of the key lessons they encountered while working on these (very different) set of projects.

Additionally, there will be dedicated networking slot after the talks bringing together a series of vendors. This is great opportunity to have chat about what they are up to in the realm of AI! Keep an eye out for a few reveals on mystery speakers as well :)

AI NI is also supported both by Digital Catapult Northern Ireland and Kainos, the support they have given has been invaluable and contributed to the inception of this community.
