Belfast based Sugar Rush win prestigious irish tech award

  • Belfast-based digital agency Sugar Rush was named Digital Transformation In Industry and Infrastructure winner at the 2022 Spider Awards in Dublin.

    Sugar Rush, which supports and empowers businesses to develop in the digital sphere by offering comprehensive and custom digital solutions, has been recognised for its efforts in supporting firms on their digital journeys throughout the pandemic.

    The company, which was launched by Ali MacFarlane in 2003 and has offices in Belfast and London, increased its workforce during the pandemic as demand for new and better digital solutions ramped up.

    It turned around countless projects over the past two years for firms across many sectors including retail, entertainment and manufacturing, enabling companies to operate more efficiently in an increasingly digital world.

    Among Sugar Rush’s services are iOS and Android mobile apps, software systems and web platforms for medium to large companies.Its client portfolio includes A-Ha, Game of Thrones, BBC, Top Gear, Ticketmaster and even footballing star Frank Lampard.

    Its efforts throughout the pandemic, and its career journey during the past year was recognised at the annual Spider Awards in Dublin, where it was also shortlisted in the Large Agency category.

    Established in 1996, the Spider Awards, more casually known as ‘The Spiders’, is one of the most high profile digital awards ceremonies in Ireland, and is also the longest-running digital awards programme in Ireland.

    Speaking about the win, Sugar Rush Founder, Ali MacFarlane said: “We were the only Northern Ireland agency to be shortlisted in both the categories we entered and being crowned winners is testament to the commitment and dedication of our whole team. Our activity to support the business world here, in the UK and in the US, grew significantly during the pandemic with our team working tremendously hard to take digitally inactive businesses into a whole new world.”

    Speaking at the event, which took place at Mansion House in Dublin, Tracey Carney, Managing Director of Spiders Awards, said the ceremony recognises the “excellence and the outstanding creativity of Ireland’s digital ecosystem.”

    She added: “We applaud all of you who are the driving force behind it, and who have ensured we are emerging stronger than ever, from what has been the biggest digital transformation any of us have ever seen. The digital industry in Ireland has not only survived but thrived over the last two years.”

    Sugar Rush is a multi-award-winning agency and was named UK App Agency of the Year in 2020.
