Virtual Event to celebrate International Girls in ICT Day

  • Digital transformation company Fujitsu is set to mark ‘UN International Girls in ICT Day’ on Thursday 28th April with a free virtual event for female students across the UK.

The ‘Girls in ICT’ Insight Event being held remotely via the Springpod Platform is designed to inspire and inform Year 9 and Year 10 pupils through inspirational talks from female role models in the ICT sector.

Teachers and students are invited to take part in the event which runs from 1pm – 3.15pm on 28th April to learn more about careers such as a software developer, IT technician, computer scientist, programmer, web designer and many more.

The theme of this year’s International Girls in ICT Day is ‘Access & Safety’ highlighting the increasing need for safe and reliable digital platforms for young women to access as well as encouraging young women to pursue STEM education and careers.

Passionate about providing equal opportunities to women in IT and supporting new entrants to the IT sector, Fujitsu also host a Women’s Business Network and Next Generation Network within their active diversity and inclusion employee networks, maximising their efforts to become a more diverse and inclusive organisation.

Lia Newcomb Head of Sustainability Management at Fujitsu explains; “We are delighted to participate in this fantastic initiative. Diversity and inclusion has been a key boardroom agenda item at Fujitsu for the past decade and through events and initiatives like this we hope we can help inspire young women to consider a career in tech.”

Students can register for Fujitsu’s ‘Girls in ICT’ Insight Event individually, watch on-demand, or it can run it via an interactive classroom environment by teachers. There are several webinars and activities for the students to participate in, these are all hosted virtually, and the students can ask questions through the teacher/host on the day.
