Belfast design agency Big Motive expands team to support future growth

  • Belfast design agency Big Motive has bolstered its team with seven new staff members, including a number of senior design professionals, to support the company’s ambitions of expanding into new markets in the next two years.

Big Motive is an award-winning design and innovation studio that creates future-ready digital services in the areas of health, government, sustainability and social impact.

The company has recently worked on a range of high-profile projects that have delivered significant societal impact. These include the STOPCovid NI app, an award-winning contact-tracing service to help fight the pandemic; the creation of design resources for the Information Commissioner’s Office Children’s code that aims to make apps and internet services safer for children; and the development of a new digital service as part of the National Childcare Scheme in Ireland enabling families to access childcare support more easily.

David Fairbrother joins with over 10 years of experience in designing digital outcomes and products, while Paul May brings 20 years of experience as a strategist and UX research to his role and Jessica Ibarra-Gambrill has 15 years of experience in creative training for well-known global and local brands.

The new additions bring Big Motive’s team in Belfast to 18 people, with plans to grow the team to 25 in the next 12 months.

"We’re delighted that we’ve been able to attract such a talented group of people to join us at Big Motive," said Damian Cranney, Managing Director of Big Motive. "Each person brings something unique to the table, with a wide range of skills, experience and knowledge. Our new recruits will help us to deepen our expertise in digital product and service design as well as support our reputation as a leading design studio across the island of Ireland.

:Each of our new team members really buy into what we’re trying to build here. Big Motive has gone from strength to strength in recent years and we’ve been able to bring our expertise to sectors where great design can drive innovation – like digital healthcare, as an example. But we’re also seeing clients across government and the private sector increasingly focus on the needs of citizens and their concerns – big issues like sustainability, social inclusion, and education.

"We believe that design can accelerate positive change in these areas so it’s really exciting to meet the opportunity with such a talented group of new team members. Needless to say, we’re excited about what’s in store in the next few years."
