NI pupils can win up to £500 in BelTech 2021 app competition

  • Applications are open now for the BelTech 2021 EDU competition, in which secondary school pupils across Northern Ireland can design their own app or create an app prototype for the chance to win up to £500.

BelTech is an annual Northern Ireland technology conference and is set to return virtually with its eighth event this year from 10 - 11 June.

As part of the event, a competition has been launched, giving secondary school students of any age the opportunity to make their own app design or app prototype with professional mentoring and the chance to win big cash prizes.

The entry level contest is geared towards pupils with little or no prior technical experience, but who want to learn more about technology.

Entrants simply have to submit an idea and a story board design for how they feel their app would work and what issues it would solve in the real world.

Participants can use any combination of mobile prototyping platforms, design software and presentation formats.

Students with some to moderate prior technical experience are best suited to apply for the primed level competition, in which they must submit a working app or an app prototype for review, to address on or more of the themes in the challenge brief.

Participants can choose any app development software, with a push towards app inventor for those with little prior technical experience.

Cash prizes range from £100, £150, £250 and £500. Applications for entry must be submitted before the end of May 2021. Anyone with a c2kni email address can sign up and it's completely free!
