Global games industry giant Epic Games has announced that it's bought Mediatonic, the UK studio behind the development of hit game Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout.
Epic Games has been making major in-roads in the games industry in recent years after it made its popular Unreal game engine free for small studios to use. Unreal is one of two major game engines currently being used in industry, and charges only a 5% royalty on games using the engine once the revenues exceed a million US dollars.
Epic is the company behind global gaming sensation Fortnite, and recently teamed up with Ulster University to provide global recognition of its game development courses. The firm has now confirmed that it's acquired Tonic Games Group, parent of UK developer Mediatonic, which developed the game Fall Guys.

Fall Guys was a critical hit in 2020 and has been praised for both its innovative gameplay and clever marketing campaigns. The game pits 100 players together in a battle royale style obstacle course reminiscent of TV shows such as Takeshi's Castle and Total Wipeout.
Mediatonic said that joining Epic Games will "accelerate our plans to improve the game and bring Fall Guys to as many players as possible, while continuing to support the community." Last month the studio announced that the game will be coming to Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
