NI Game Awards 2021 now open for nominations

  • The NI Game Awards is back with a bumper virtual award show on March 6th, celebrating two years of achievements in the local games industry.

The games industry is globally now worth more than movies and music combined, but it's only in the past few years that it's really started to take off in Northern Ireland. Between several major investments in local studios and Northern Ireland Screen opening the Pixel Mill game development accelerator space, the NI games industry is growing at a rapid pace.

Last year we saw major news for the region when global game development company Riot Games, creator of League of Legends, finalised its buyout of Derry-based Hypixel Studios. The region also saw several other smaller wins throughout the year, and the creation of many new independent game development and VR/AR startups.

The NI Game Awards pay tribute to local development studios for their hard work on upcoming and recently released titles, shining a spotlight on some of the individuals and teams making great games here in Northern Ireland. Award nominations are now open in the following categories:

    • Community Award
    • Best Mobile Game
    • Best Student Game
    • Best Art Direction (Game)
    • Rising Star Award (Person)
    • Most Anticipated Game (Unreleased)
    • Best Game (Game of the Year Combined 2019+20)
    • Best Studio (Studio of the Year Combined 2019-20)

The award event itself will be going digital this year, with a live broadcast taking place online on March 6th. In addition to the awards, the event will feature announcements, trailers for local games, and special guests.

Due to Covid disruption this year, the 2021 NI Game Awards will cover all games released from January 1st 2019 to December 31st 2020, celebrating the past two years of local industry achievements.
