Newry firm gains platinum accreditation for its virtual testing tech

  • Local firm Resonate Testing Ltd has been recognised as a Platinum level Innovator by Innovate NI for its innovative virtual testing tech.

You may not think too much about it, but many of the products you use every day have had to undergo extensive testing to prove that they're safe, durable, and meet the legal standards required for international trade. Products are tested to ensure they're safe in the event of a fire, and that they don't break in response to humidity or vibration and shock.

These tests have to be conducted in specialised facilities by qualified people in order to meet various safety standards, and that often means sending staff and products to testing facilities in other countries. The coronavirus pandemic disrupted the product testing industry as travel bans have made the usual trips more dangerous and difficult.

Resonate Testing Ltd has been using in an alternative virtual testing approach for the past several years, investing in high-quality live stream tech. From its Centre of Excellence facility in Newry, the company is able to securely send confidential live footage of tests to its clients across Ireland, the UK, Europe, and the US. This has become even more important due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The company has just been recognised by the Department for the Economy's Innovate NI programme as a Platinum level Innovator, the highest possible award. The scheme is delivered by Invest Northern Ireland in poartnership with local councils and educational institutions, and is designed to help local businesses expand their innovation capabilities.

Managing Director of Resonate Testing Ltd, Tom Mallon said: "We invested heavily in state-of-the-art equipment prior to the pandemic, which included high-spec cameras, video lighting, Bluetooth technology and audio-visual communications. This equipment allows our team to conduct high-quality testing, with backup testing processes in place in the unlikely event of a blackout."

"Since the restrictions were placed on travel, we are finding that many organisations are looking for companies that specialise in virtual testing and with our experience, we’re the perfect fit. We have had organisations in America contact us to do their testing, as the testing processes delivered by local US companies were not meeting the required standards."
