Software firm Silverchip has launched an online platform to highlight numerous eateries across the UK that are providing free meals over the school half-term.
The Manchester-based web and app development company launched the School Meal Finder on Sunday to help ensure families living in poverty don’t go hungry.
In under 24 hours of its launch, Silverchip had more than 900 businesses sign up to their website, currently three of which are based in Northern Ireland – Edge Coffee in Holywood, Loaf Bakery on the Grosvenor Road in Belfast and Sweet treats and Party Favours on the Springfield Road.

Liam Bateman, Chief Technical Officer at Silverchip thanked everyone involved with the new initiative for their support so far and added: “What we really need now is to continue this momentum. This is a really important campaign – we shouldn’t even be saying these words in 2020 – but no child should be hungry and if we can offer support to people that need it over the next few weeks then that’s an incredible thing.”
Liam, who has over 15 years’ experience working with businesses in the digital agency industry, continued: “We do need some PR help in terms of getting this in front of local and mainstream media outlets.”

The Silverchip team said it has been inspired by Manchester United footballer, Marcus Rashford’s efforts to get school meals extended through the holidays.
