Newry-based FinTech firm Péarlaí offers shops a free cloud-based solution for managing queues

  • Newry-based FinTech firm Péarlaí Ltd is offering shops a queue management solution to help them safely re-open after the Covid-19 lockdown.

The coronavirus lockdown has been slowly eased in stages to let different shops re-open, the current advice is for shops to maintain social distancing inside stores. This means strict limits to the number of people inside a shop at the same time and making sure people stay 2m apart when queueing outside and at checkouts.

Newry FinTech firm Péarlaí Ltd has developed a new queue management solution named Péarlaí Protect that allows shoppers to pre-book slots at certain participating stores and then skip the queues on arriving. For the shop owners, the tool can be used to help figure out demand levels ahead of time and adjust their till staffing or stock levels. Before the pandemic, Péarlaí ran VIP shopping loyalty schemes that offered shoppers special discounts at certain stores and perks such as free parking, with shops gaining access to analytics about their VIP shoppers. The technology has been re-developed to help with coronavirus social distancing thanks to support from the Ulster Bank Accelerator Programme, which offers tech firms access to free office space, workshops, and free coaching and mentorship.

Péarlaí CEO Peter McCaul commented on the new technology: "We have seen how essential and non-essential retailers are adjusting to the new normal and are confident that our software will provide benefits to shopping centres, retailers and shoppers alike. [...] Péarlai has also developed a cloud-based counting system which will help shopping centres manage their capacity keeping their shoppers and retailers health and safety top of their priorities while meeting government guidelines."
