Northern Ireland cyber security group NI Cyber is investigating the possibility of making a Northern Ireland collaborative cluster for cyber security, and is running webinars in response to COVID-19.
NI Cyber is a network of Northern Ireland's top cyber security tech companies, with partners in everything from FinTech and telecoms to Medtech, threat intelligence, and legal. The cluster works with local cyber security and tech firms and stakeholders in government and academia share knowledge and opportunities that can benefit all cyber security companies in Northern Ireland.
Simon Whittaker, Chair of NI Cyber and Founder of Vertical Structure said "The primary focus of NI Cyber is to establish Northern Ireland as a recognised region of excellence for cybersecurity products and services, resulting in accelerated business growth and productivity, and attraction and retention of talent in the sector."
The group has recently been awarded a significant grant from Invest Northern Ireland's Collaborative Growth Programme to investigate the potential for establishing a formal cyber security collaborative cluster in Northern Ireland. If the initial scoping investigation indicates that Northern Ireland would benefit from a cyber security collaborative cluster, it could lead to to further collaborative projects between companies in the industry focused on training needs, research, and innovative projects.
The study will be carried out by Gillian Colan-O’Leary, who noted "Successful, modern cities are driven by innovation, and foster clusters of excellence in specific industries. This attracts talent and investment into the city, and increases opportunities for companies to trade nationally and internationally. This is the objective with NI Cyber."
The next NI Cyber webinar is set to take place tomorrow (Wednesday 8th April) as part of NI Cyber's programme of support to help businesses work at home safely and still maintain information security.
