The Alan Turing Institute is calling on data science researchers to help address frontline clinical staff’s urgent questions and produce rapid actionable insights.

Projects are expected to last for a minimum of three months and clinical colleagues would like teams to be ready to start analysing data within the next few weeks.

The Turing Institute’s website states that a “medical database is being established, starting with regularly updating data feeds from the most digitally mature care providers.

“Further NHS Trusts will incrementally be added in order to support high quality data capture throughout the current pandemic.

“The whole effort is facilitated by the Turing’s scalable and flexible analysis environment equipped with a wide range of data science tools and software, located inside the secure environment of PIONEER.”

Teams and individual researchers are wanted to “rapidly trial tested, robust and reproducible data science and machine learning methods on this new national data resource of COVID ICU data.”

They will then create a near real-time analytics platform and information console to support acute care management and clinical decision making for COVID-19.

DECOVID is the name of partnership between The Alan Turing Institute, HDR (Health Data Research) UK, founding trusts, and academic partners that is calling for researchers to help.

It is nationally scalable to include more trusts, researchers and computational resources, as they become available.

Initial expression of interest forms must be submitted by 1:00pm on Friday 3 April. For more details on how to apply visit the Turing Institute website here.
