Google opens free digital skills training hub in Belfast City Centre

  • A new Google Digital Garage has opened in Belfast City Centre offering free digital skills training sessions and events for everyone.

Global tech giant Google has been supporting the development of digital skills across the world with its Google Digital Garages, and now the scheme has finally come to Belfast. The new space has opened in the heart of the city centre in 9 Arthur Street, and is already starting to host a variety of courses and special events.

The garage offers free courses on everything from beginner internet skills and online safety to starting a business, digital marketing, and building a brand on YouTube. It also offers one-on-one mentoring support for those who need specific digital skills help, and can run events in nearby venues for larger groups.

Head over to the Belfast Digital Garage events page for a full breakdown of the weekly courses currently offered and a listing of upcoming special events. The events all have a limited number of spaces, so you'll have to snag a free ticket on EventBrite to be assured of a space.

Google's investment in the new Belfast Digital Garage follows several years of rapid growth in the local tech scene. Speaking to Belfast Telegraph this week, Google Shopping director Ryan Owens, originally from Northern Ireland, said that he could see more the big tech giants setting up offices in Belfast in the future.
