Local IT firm Novosco is making a significant investment in a new 24/7 cyber-security centre in Belfast.
Cyber-security has become one of the pillars of Northern Ireland's booming tech sector in recent years, with local tech firms investing heavily in cyber defense. Novosco has been working with Belfast Met this year to train staff through its joint cyber-security academy, and now it's planning a new cyber-security centre to put those skills to good use.
The company has made a six-figure investment in a new 24/7 dedicated IT security operations centre, setting side over half a million pounds to build the infrastructure and team to make it work. A new team of 12 staff who have graduated from Novosco's cyber-security academy will run the centre, which will operate out of the company's headquarters in Catalyst Inc.
The new team's goal is to provide cyber-security services to external organisations throughout the UK and Ireland, with 24/7 staff availability because cyber-threats don't wait until work hours. The team will monitor the IT systems of clients such as Cambridge University Hospitals Trust and help prevent security risks and cyber-attacks.
Managing Director John Lennon commented on the new centre: "We have invested significantly in the capital infrastructure, the technology, and the people to make sure that we have an offering that meets the requirements of organisations with complex and sophisticated cyber security needs. Part of this was setting up a cyber security academy with Belfast Met to train dedicated security analysts to run the new centre. As a result, we have some of the most expert and best-trained analysts in the UK and Ireland."
