The inaugural All-Ireland Mediation Competition took place this week, pitting eight teams from the Institute of Professional Legal Studies and Blackhall in Dublin against each other in a fiercery competitive event. The entries were observed and adjudicated by senior partners from law firms across Ireland, with the top team representing Ireland's legal industry output.

The winning team of four consisted of Eimear Cathcart, Allison Weir, Hayley Cummings and Amanda Gilliland, with former Queen's University Belfast student and Law graduate Eimear Cathcart captaining. The team was trained by Queen's Institute of Professional Legal Studies interim director Barbara Jemphrey, and the Law Society of Northern Ireland have congratulated the four students and IPLS on representing the legal profession.

Cormac Fitzpatrick, Partner and head of office in Belfast commented saying, “Mediation Competitions are a fantastic and prestigious tradition in legal circles. Eimear has made a great start to legal life and shown strong mediation and advocacy skills since joining BLM. It’s an exciting time for BLM following a successful year of business growth and employing the most talented lawyers is an important part of providing our clients with the highest quality service.”
