CompareNI releases data on car insurance claims across NI

  • Insurance comparison site CompareNI has released stats on which motorists are most likely to make a claim in Northern Ireland, broken down by city, gender, and profession.

Insurance companies typically base their quotes on statistics about how likely you are to make a claim, and to do that they collect a wide range of data on people applying for insurance or making claims on their policies. Insurance comparison site CompareNI handles almost 250,000 car insurance quotes each year and has now released data on those most likely to make a claim on their car insurance.

The city with the highest claim rate is Lisburn at 9.88%, with Carrickfergus coming in second at 9.84%, Bangor third at 9.82%, and the lowest rates coming from Strabane with only a 4.71% claim rate. Women were found to be 20% more likely to have made an insurance claim than men, though men were 61% more likely to receive a driving conviction than women and 36% more likely to be convicted of driving without insurance.

CompareNI.com Founder Greg Wilson said: "These figures offer a very interesting picture of motorist behaviour in Northern Ireland. CompareNI.com has been trading for ten years now and we’ve seen some very insightful data during that time. It is also a timely reminder that should the UK leave the EU without a deal, drivers in Northern Ireland who will be driving to the Republic of Ireland should liaise with their insurance provider to ensure they receive their Green Card as proof of insurance.”
