New family-friendly hotel investment planned for Belfast's Titanic Quarter

  • JMK Group has announced a proposal to invest in a new 280-room family-friendly hotel in Hamilton Dock in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter, directly opposite the Titanic Belfast building.

Over 1 million tourists visit Belfast's Titanic quarter and waterfront area each year, with more than 20,000 people currently working or visiting the area daily. Popular tourist attractions in the area include the Titanic Belfast building, the award-winning W5 Science & Discovery Centre, the SSE Arena, the SS Nomadic and HMS Caroline, and the We are Vertigo Activity Centre.

The large number of family-friendly attractions in the area and its proximity to the city centre and shopping areas have led to increased demand for family-friendly hotels in the area, and JMK Group wants to invest in supplying it. The group has planned a large 280-room hotel that would sit in the Hamilton Dock area directly opposite the Titanic Belfast building.

JMK Group currently runs hotels across the UK and Ireland under the brands Hampton by Hilton, Seraphine and Holiday Inn, but this will be its first investment in Northern Ireland. The building could be open by Summer 2021 in time for the peak tourism season, though it hasn't been confirmed what brand it will run under.

A JMK Group spokesperson commented on the project: "This project is about making a strategic investment in Belfast’s tourism sector, meeting the increasing demand from families who see Belfast and Titanic Quarter as a family friendly destination. We believe that the growth of the tourist sector in Belfast and Northern Ireland has an exciting future."
