Free event on the future of 5G in Belfast to be held next month

  • ICC Belfast will be hosting a lecture next month to help get people up to speed on the challenges and benefits of the city's upcoming 5G rollout.

    Next-generation 5G mobile internet is starting to roll out commercially sround the world this year, with limited tests having already taken place in a number of cities. Academics and researchers have also had access to the technology to begin developing tech solutions using 5G, with full consumer rollout still to come.

    Belfast will be one of the first cities in the UK to get access to 5G, but what does that mean for your industry? You can find out more about Belfast's 5G future at the next IET Prestige Lecture on '5G convergence and the digital future' next month. The event will take place at the ICC Belfast Waterfront Hall on 21st May at 6pm.

    The event is being organised by the BT Ireland Innovation Centre and the Institution of Engineering & Technology NI, and will feature a talk by BT’s Managing Director of Research and Innovation, Professor Tim Whitley. He will outline the challenges in deploying 5G networks and highlight the benefits of the technology to businesses and consumers, and answer questions from attendees.
