Capita launches new cyber security centre in Belfast

  • IT outsourcing company Capita has entered the NI cyber security field with the launch of its first Security Operations Centre in Belfast.

The cyber security sector has exploded in Northern Ireland in recent months and is attracting global attention, most recently when Silicon Valley cyber security firm Imperva chose Belfast for its upcoming cyber security technology hub. Now IT outsourcing company Capita is joining the local market with a new Security Operations Centre due to open in Belfast.

The new security centre will be located within the Capita IT Services Centre of Excellence in Belfast and is being handled by the company's Newtownabbey-based subsidiary formerly known as Capita IT Managed Solutions. Belfast Telegraph reports that Capita IT Managed Solutions has recently seen a profit drop of 27% and a similar drop in staff, and this new centre will reportedly launch with a staff of just eight people.

Ed Brown, Capita IT and Networks, said: "In response to continued client demand, the launch of this centre represents our commitment to invest in the Northern Ireland market and our enhanced support for our established customer base. With the first IT and data security centre of its kinds in the region, we are leading the market in the delivery of cutting-edge digital and tech solutions for our clients."
