Allstate Northern Ireland has successfully delivered its 2026 Insights Programme, providing undergraduate students with a unique opportunity to experience life inside a global technology organisation and gain practical exposure to modern software engineering practices.
Designed for first-year university students studying technology-related degrees, the three-day hybrid programme attracted more than 400 applications, with 54 students selected to participate.
Hosted by Allstate’s Digital Centre of Excellence in Belfast, the programme combined in-person and virtual learning experiences, helping students develop a deeper understanding of the technology industry while building confidence in their future career aspirations.
The programme was created to go beyond traditional career talks, offering students meaningful insight into how enterprise technology teams collaborate, innovate, and solve complex business challenges.
Day one took place at Allstate’s Belfast office, where students explored the organisation’s outcome-based delivery model, learned how emerging technologies and AI are being applied to real-world business challenges, and gained an understanding of how engineering, collaboration, and creativity come together to deliver value. Participants also had the opportunity to experience Allstate’s workplace culture first-hand through an interactive scavenger hunt.
The second day was delivered virtually and focused on data, product and engineering collaboration. Students learned how data is transformed into meaningful business intelligence through sessions on data science and data engineering, while also gaining insight into digital product management, product requirements gathering and modern software delivery practices including continuous integration and continuous delivery.
The final day focused on engineering quality, security, architecture and personal development. Through interactive workshops and practical challenges, students explored test-first development approaches, AI security and penetration testing, architectural thinking, and resilience in a hybrid workplace. The programme concluded with a retrospective session and information about future opportunities, including internships and graduate pathways.
Feedback from participants highlighted the value of gaining real-world industry insight, learning about career pathways, and engaging directly with technology professionals.
Students described the programme as providing “a more realistic view on what working in a software company is actually like,” while others praised the opportunity to understand how AI is being used to support and enhance work rather than replace it. Participants also highlighted the value of networking with industry professionals and learning about recruitment and assessment processes.
Building on the success of the Insights Programme, Allstate will welcome a new cohort of students to a new hybrid programme this August. The three-day hybrid experience will take place on 11, 12 and 13 August and will provide up to 50 students studying practical, engineering-focused IT degrees with the opportunity to explore the digital technology industry through interactive workshops, skills development sessions and exposure to modern engineering practices.
Participants will gain hands-on insight into Allstate’s technology stack, DevOps, Test-Driven Development, Generative AI and Agentic AI, while learning how technology is used to help protect customers when they need it most. Students will also receive employability support and career guidance designed to prepare them for future placement, internship and graduate opportunities.
Those who excel throughout the programme and successfully complete a final assessment may be awarded a Golden Ticket, granting automatic progression to the second stage of Allstate’s Graduate Recruitment process for its 2028 intake.
The programme will be delivered in a hybrid format, with one day taking place at Allstate’s Belfast office and two days delivered virtually.
Stephen McKeown, Vice President and Managing Director at Allstate Northern Ireland, said:
"At Allstate, we are committed to supporting and developing the next generation of technology professionals. The Insights Programme provides students with valuable exposure to the realities of working in a modern technology organisation, helping them build confidence, understand the opportunities available to them, and develop the skills needed for future success. The enthusiasm, curiosity and ambition demonstrated by this year’s participants was inspiring, and we look forward to continuing to invest in early talent across Northern Ireland."
