PwC announces move to massive £70m Merchant Square office development

  • PwC announced today that it will become the anchor tenant of Belfast's upcoming £70m Merchant Square development in Belfast's largest private-sector office letting deal yet.

Back in May, Oakland Holdings announced that work was beginning on a massive redevelopment of the old Oyster and Royston House buildings in Belfast into a modern offering with premium office, retail, and restaurant space. The new development will cost £70m to complete and will consist of nine floors with over 200,000 sq feet of Grade A office space.

Today, PwC announced plans to move its 2,000 staff to Merchant Square upon the project's completion in the summer of 2020 to become the building's anchor tenant. The company will take up most of the building's 3,000-employee office capacity, making this the largest private-sector office letting deal by a Belfast company.

PwC is already beginning to feel the squeeze in its current office in Waterfront Plaza, having recruited over 600 new staff in the past 12 months. "We are investing in technology and collaborative space to ensure we can work well with clients from across the globe," explained Paul Terrington, Northern Ireland chair and head of UK regions, adding that "We intend to make Merchant Square an accessible and vibrant part of life in the city."
