NI Science Festival returns for 2026 with unmissable tech events

  • The festival is set to host hundreds of events across Northern Ireland from 11-22 February

With a star-powered programme of world-class scientists, celebrity speakers and family-focused STEAM events, the NI Science Festival (NISF) returns from 11-22 February to venues across Northern Ireland.

The festival celebrates the wonders of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics through a vibrant programme of events that inspire curiosity, spark conversations and showcase how science shapes our world.

Commenting on this year’s programme, festival director Sarah Jones said: “Science isn’t just for labs. It’s in our history and culture. It’s how we understand the world around us and that’s what we’re about at NI Science Festival. With events spanning archaeology to music and quantum physics we’re here to open up a whole world of possibility for audiences.”

In the tech space the festival features Dr Bot: Why Doctors Can Fail Us, where Charlotte Blease reveals how AI, if handled with care, could emerge as the most reliable physician in history, in conversation with William Crawley.

Matrix NI presents an opportunity to ‘Hack to the Future’ as a coder, creative, policymaker to create real world solutions to current challenges as individuals and teams navigate ‘world scenarios’ culminating in a pitched presentation to an expert panel.

In The Rise of Agentic AI experts will peel back the curtain on what “agentic AI” really means by showcasing how today’s AI agents can already book flights, write code, or manage tasks, discussing the potential opportunities in healthcare, science, and everyday life and also answering the big questions around trust, safety, and responsibility when machines act independently.

And in Too Much Autonomy, discover how thoughtful coding practices keep AI safe, reliable, and under control, and learn how autonomous AI agents can go rogue and how a simple, human-centred approach can prevent it.

Providing a fun and interactive introduction to coding, KUBO the robot is touring libraries across Northern Ireland as part of this year’s festival.
