Danske Bank participated in 2025 and achieved Platinum Level in the annual Survey.
Northern Ireland’s most sustainable organisations were revealed at an event to announce the results of the 2025 Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey, organised by responsible business network Business in the Community (BITC).
Dr Lisa McIlvenna, Managing Director, BITC said: “The Survey is a self-disclosure exercise that offers organisations a way to be externally assessed and scored on their environmental efforts and performance. Participating organisations are sent a Gap Analysis Report to help them to identify areas that need action and highlights where they are performing well, so it’s a comparison tool and real driver for improvement.”
Chris Martin, Head of Sustainability, Danske Bank UK added: “Businesses continue to face calls to demonstrate meaningful action on climate and environmental challenges, and ways to reduce their environmental impact. We’ve achieved Platinum this year, but we know there’s always more to be done. Benchmarking against other leading organisations in Northern Ireland is a valuable tool that helps us to measure our progress, celebrate our successes and ensure we continue to improve.”
150 NI-based organisations from sectors including: General Manufacturing; Local Authority; Education; Utilities; Construction; ICT; and Food and Drink took part in the Survey, with 41 organisations achieving coveted top Platinum level.
Commenting on key findings from the Survey, Keelin McCone, Head of Environment, BITC said: “This year’s Survey shows real progress. Over half of organisations have quantified climate risks and put plans in place, while action on emissions is accelerating — 74% of organisations report on at least one category of greenhouse gas emissions and 45% now include scope 3.
“Circular economy practices are becoming mainstream, with nearly 80% of businesses purchasing recycled materials and reducing single-use packaging. Engagement is strong too: almost all organisations involve employees in sustainability, 81% work directly with customers, and 79% apply environmental criteria to supplier procurement. These figures highlight a growing commitment to embed sustainability across operations and the value chain.”
