Tourism Northern Ireland has been accredited as a ‘Living Wage Employer’ by Living Wage NI.
As a Living Wage Employer, the public sector body has voluntarily committed to pay the real UK Living Wage to all of its directly employed staff.
It has also committed to ensuring all third-party contracted and sub-contracted regular staff are paid the real Living Wage.
The real Living Wage remains the only UK wage rate calculated on the real cost of living.
In addition, Tourism NI has also pledged to increase the wages for employees and contracted staff to the real Living Wage, if appropriate, within six months of any rise in the calculated Living Wage rates.
At the heart of the real Living Wage campaign is a commitment by businesses and organisations to go further than the government minimum.
Following the licensing process, Tourism NI was informed that it has successfully met the standards set by the Living Wage Foundation. The accreditation will be renewed annually.
Having demonstrated its commitment as a responsible employer, the organisation can now display a Living Wage plaque and digital assets to showcase the accreditation.
Tourism NI will also be listed on the Living Wage Foundation website and employer map.
The Department for the Economy, of which Tourism NI is a non-departmental public body, defines a ‘good job’ as one which offers an employee of working age, a permanent contract, a non zero-hour contract, and the Real Living Wage or more.
Louise Fitzsimons, Head of People and Organisational Development at Tourism NI, said: “Tourism NI is committed to the wellbeing of all our employees and workers and paying a Living Wage directly impacts financial security and overall wellbeing.
“Paying the Real Living Wage boosts morale, motivation, and overall job satisfaction and we are delighted to be recognised as a Living Wage accredited employer.”

Mary McManus, Advice NI Regional Manager of Living Wage NI, said: “Living Wage NI is delighted to welcome Tourism NI to the rapidly growing network of local employers who have accredited as Living Wage Employers.
“There are over 16,000 employers signed up to the Living Wage in the UK with almost 200 of these based in NI.
“With one in six jobs paid below the Living Wage here, it is vital that public sector organisations like Tourism NI show leadership by accrediting as a real Living Wage Employer.”
