Legal professionals from Northern Ireland’s largest independent law firm Carson McDowell are bringing the Legal Experts in Schools education initiative to 25 lower-sixth students at Malone Integrated College.
The programme is delivered in partnership with Young Citizens, an initiative of the Citizenship Foundation. It has been in existence for 19 years across Great Britain and this is the third year the programme will be offered to Northern Ireland students.
Delivered by 10 volunteers from Carson McDowell’s Litigation, Corporate, Commercial and Property Departments, the 6 week programme will help young people understand certain legal rights and responsibilities. The course covers a range of legal areas of importance to young people including social media law, employment law, intellectual property and consumer rights among others.
Jacqueline McAleese at Carson McDowell commented “We’re proud to support the programme for the third consecutive year since launching in Northern Ireland in 2016. This new group of young people at Malone Integrated College will gain vital legal skills and knowledge that will be essential as they approach adulthood. It is also a great opportunity to increase awareness of the possible career opportunities students can pursue in the legal sector.”
Dr Anne Rice at Young Citizens said “This education initiative provides students at Malone Integrated College with the chance to gain first class knowledge of the legal system by those working within the sector. Bringing legal professionals into the classrooms will enable students to fully understand the legalities of everyday life, from downloading music to part-time work entitlements, they will receive expert knowledge of their rights and responsibilities.”
