Whitespace, a leading UK-based AI and innovation consultancy, has been selected to join the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) new “Engine for Growth” programme - a transformative initiative aimed at accelerating the delivery of cutting-edge technology to the UK Armed Forces.
Announced by Defence Secretary John Healey during a formal ceremony at the London Stock Exchange on May 13, 2025, the “Engine for Growth” represents a significant overhaul of defence innovation strategy. The programme is designed to streamline procurement processes, foster agile partnerships, and ensure that advanced technologies reach the front lines more efficiently.
Whitespace’s inclusion in this initiative underscores its decade-long commitment to bridging the gap between technological innovation and governmental application. As one of the first companies awarded an Enterprise Agreement under the new framework, Whitespace will leverage its expertise to support the MoD in identifying and scaling transformative technologies.

The platform facilitates intelligent discovery, insight-led scouting, and customised programme delivery, ensuring that innovations are both impactful and operationally relevant.
The “Engine for Growth” initiative includes several key components:
● Establishment of a new defence innovation body with £400 million in funding to identify and scale transformational technologies.
● Launch of a Defence Technology Scaler to support start-ups and scale-ups with funding, mentorship, and direct access to defence end-users.
● Implementation of reforms to reduce procurement timelines, particularly benefiting SMEs and high-growth firms.
