As part of International Women’s Day 2025, over one hundred women from the renewable energy sector gathered in Belfast this week to champion inspiring female voices and empower the next generation of female talent.
RenewableNI’s popular Women in Renewables event, in partnership with SSE Renewables and SONI, is the renewable industry’s only all-female event across the UK and Ireland.
Now a firm fixture in the events programme leading up to and celebrating International Women’s Day, it returned for a third consecutive year, providing a valuable platform to highlight the critical contributions of the many women working in the renewable energy industry across these Islands.

The theme of International Women’s Day 2025 is accelerating action. Whilst progress has been made, urgent steps still need to be taken to ensure equal pay, equal leadership, and equal opportunities for all working women.
Renewable NI’s event aims to promote female voices, tackle the many barriers to career advancement and encourage women in the renewables’ industry to be agents for change. An all-female panel shared their own experiences about the challenges facing women in what is a male-dominated industry, the importance of women in STEM, and their commitment to inspiring a new generation of female talent.
As part of RenewableNI’s commitment to increasing the number of women in the renewable sector, and advancing those already in the industry, an innovative new mentoring programme developed in partnership with Belfast Metropolitan College and the Department for the Economy, was also launched on the day.
RenewableNI Chair, Tamasin Fraser, said: “These are the women who are literally powering the future, and I was honoured to chair an all-female panel of industry experts on the importance of STEM role models in the renewable energy sector.
This event was the first of its kind in the UK and Ireland and one we all really look forward to. Women in Renewables has been hugely successful and grown year on year.
It’s clear that representation matters, and events like these showcase the female leaders in our industry and provide younger women with valuable role models and mentors. Thank you to all the delegates who made it such a memorable and uplifting day.”
