Open University opens applications for hundreds of funded course places

  • The Open University opens applications for hundreds of free places on a range of courses funded by the Department for the Economy’s Skill Up initiative. 
     
    The Open University has opened applications for a range of free postgraduate courses and short microcredential courses funded by the Department for the Economy’s Skill Up initiative. 
      
    There are 26 courses to choose from in three critical areas: green skills, computing and IT, and leadership and management.
     
    Courses range in price from £275 to £3,360 - but will be fully funded by the Department under the Skill Up scheme. 
     
     
    The Skill Up funding, designed to enhance workforce capabilities and promote lifelong learning, aligns perfectly with The Open University’s mission to make education accessible to all. By focusing on green skills, computing and IT, and leadership, the Open University aims to equip people with the expertise required to thrive in an evolving job market and contribute to the economy’s sustainability and growth. 
     
    These courses are designed to develop the next generation of leaders who can navigate complex challenges and drive organisational excellence. 
     
    John D’Arcy, Director, The Open University in Northern Ireland commented: “We are delighted to receive this new round of Skill Up funding from the Department for the Economy. This support enables us to offer high-quality postgraduate courses and bite-sized short courses at no cost to the learner, helping individuals upskill in vital areas that will support future economic growth in Northern Ireland.
     
    "By investing in these fields, we are not only supporting our students’ personal and professional growth, but also contributing to the broader economic and environmental goals of the Northern Ireland Executive.” 
     
     
    Economy Minister Conor Murphy said: “I am pleased that my Department, through the Skill Up initiative, is funding this latest round of courses through The Open University. To date the initiative has enabled more than 25,000 people across the north to access education and training to reskill or upskill, significantly boosting their employability and career prospects.
     
    "A range of in-demand subject areas are available and I encourage anyone interested in these courses to apply.” 
     
    Green Skills 
    As the world increasingly prioritises sustainable practices, the demand for professionals adept in green skills has surged. The Open University’s postgraduate courses in this area include; 
    • Making environmental decisions 
    • Climate change: Transforming your organisation for sustainability. 
    Those who complete these courses will be well-prepared to lead the charge in creating a more sustainable future. 
     
    Computing & IT 
    The technology sector continues to grow at an unprecedented rate, and proficiency in software development is more valuable than ever. The Open University’s courses on offer include:

    • Strategic Capabilities for technological innovation 
    These courses will equip students with the technical skills needed to excel in various high-demand tech roles. 
     
    Leadership and Management

    Applications Open Now 

    The Open University is now accepting applications for these free postgraduate courses and microcredential courses.
