New charity launched to encourge people to "Digg Deep for kids"

  • A new charity which aims to support children and families facing poverty and hardship across Northern Ireland has been launched.

DIGG Deep for Kids started as a fundraising initiative organised by Co Tyrone businesswoman and mum of three, Caroline O’Neill in 2019 and has since raised over £460,000.

In this time, it has supported thousands of children and families through the Simon Community, St Vincent de Paul, Women’s Aid, Children In Northern Ireland, Cash For Kids and Save The Children.

Due to the impact the campaign has made throughout the province over the last four years, organisers applied for charitable status with the aim of being able to help even more people.

Caroline O’Neill, Founder of DIGG Deep for Kids said: “I’m really proud that we are announcing the launch of DIGG Deep for Kids as a local charity and it is our hope that this will enable us to help even more people across Northern Ireland. We have formed a board of trustees who have supported the campaign since its inception and we’re dedicated in helping to support children and families facing poverty and hardship.

DIGG Deep for Kids is unique because we liaise directly with the local charities to purchase the items that are needed the most for the people they work with across their networks. We’ve raised over £460,000 to date and by working with local businesses and people of influence on social media, we have been able to almost double this in value to make the money stretch as far as possible, and maximise the amount of essentials we’ve been able to get for those who need it the most including heat, electric and food as well as gifts for children who otherwise might have woken up on Christmas morning without one.”

DIGG Deep for Kids Trustee, Sarah Thompson added: “DIGG Deep For Kids represents the power of the community as everyone joins together to make this amazing fundraising initiative possible. It helps to give hope to so many children and families across Northern Ireland and whilst it has been a festive campaign to date, we have exciting plans in place to extend the support available to ensure we reach as many of the people who need the help and support throughout the year.”
