2017 Data Security Trends

  • 2016 was a big year for changing Data Security Trends and in particular, cyber security. To help you align your businesses IT strategy, Xperience IT Solutions are sharing their predictions on the data security trends expected to rise in 2017.

    An Eventful 2016…

2016 changed the face of data security. There were major breaches in global organisations like Yahoo, TalkTalk and Tesco. BREXIT actually happened and Trump was voted as US president- both will be significant as to how data is managed and protected in the years to come. It’s been eventful to say the least!

Now that we're in 2017, we’ve looked at past trends and outlined what we predict will happen next. In 2017 we expect regulations to change, hackers to get smarter. So buckle your seatbelts, it’s going to be another bumpy ride…

    Attackers Will Get Smarter

Last year, cyber-attacks cost both individuals and businesses alike billions of pounds. Yes, billions of pounds that’s now in the pockets of criminals. Intelligence levels are growing and attackers are getting smarter. With the new year comes new laws, surveillance and preventative measures- giving cyber criminals more reason to up their game. As a business, it’s essential your security is up to scratch, and your data is protected. In 2017 it’s not a case of ‘if’ an attack will happen, its ‘when’.

    Legsilations Will Change

The changing pace of technology and cyber-security change far surpasses the change in laws and regulations. It’s hoped 2017 will bring smarter and more agile enforcement that will help you to better protect your business. Our advice is to make sure you are one step ahead, proactively keep up to date with change to ensure resilience in every area of your business.

    Skills Will Grow in Demand

Your most important assets are your people and your data BUT at the same time, can also be the biggest risk. In 2017, simply educating users on the risks will not be suffice. It is your responsibility to ensure that a culture of information security is embedded into the business. You must invest in up-skilling and educating staff on the risks, their responsibilities as well as preventative measures and solutions.

More Business Will Migrate to the Cloud

The latest research from the Cloud Industry Forum (CIF) reveals that the overall Cloud adoption rate in the UK today stands at 84%. With year on year growth since their initial research in 2010, the same is predicted for 2017. If data security is a top priority for your business, it may be something worth considering. Why? Because cloud lets you maintain control over your data, whilst offering superior levels of protection!

    What’s your priority for 2017?

It’s time to consider, what  you can do to protect your data and how can you step up your security strategy?
