  • A Portadown-based company is expanding significantly through an investment of around £600,000, supported by Ulster Bank.

Dawson Manufacturing & Engineering is growing its premises by 40 per cent, investing in new laser cutting machinery, and employing 6 new people with the help of finance from the bank.

The company, which currently employs more than 30 people, is one of Northern Ireland’s leading manufacturers of bespoke stainless steel products. Its clients include food sector and catering firms, health trusts, and the pharmaceutical sector.

Founded eight years ago by brothers Colin and Ian Dawson, the business moved to its current 14,000 square foot facility in 2009 and has experienced steady growth since.

Colin Dawson says that its latest investment will increase the size of its premises to over 20,000 sq ft, expand its workforce to almost 40, and enable it to further enhance the service it offers to clients.

“Working closely with Ulster Bank, we have put in place plans to facilitate the ongoing growth of the company. The enlarged premises and workforce will enable us to continue to increase our client-base and to bring laser-cutting in-house, therefore allowing us to further improve efficiency and to reduce lead-times,” Mr Dawson says.

Girvan Gault, Lisburn & Newry Business Centre at Ulster Bank says: “Ulster Bank has worked closely with Dawson Manufacturing & Engineering for a number of years, supporting the initial investment in its Charlestown Industrial Estate premises and its ongoing growth and expansion since. We are very pleased to assist with this latest investment which will help position the company strongly for the future.”
