Digital sector in Belfast employs almost 9,000, says report

  • Belfast’s digital sector now employs almost 9,000 people according to data from Tech Nation.

    The Tech Nation Report 2018 was released ahead of an event this evening (Wednesday July 26) at the shared co-working space Ormeau Baths in Belfast.

    Digital tech business turnover in 2017 was £875 million according to the data, which also says there were 97 digital start-ups founded in Belfast last year and 8,970 people are currently working in the digital space.

    Between 2011 and 2016 the number of start-ups increased by 143%.

    In addition the most popular meet ups were listed, with Bash! ahead of DevOps Belfast and IoT Belfast with 1,408 members compared to 1,200 and 991 respectively.

    The Tech Nation 2018 Survey was conducted across the UK between January 2018 and February 2018. There was a total of 3,428 submissions, with majority of respondents (33%) founders and CEOs.

    Among the scheduled events at the Ormeau Baths is a panel discussion which Kainos CTO Tom Gray and Irene McAleese, the co-founder of See.sense, will moderate.
