The Northern Ireland branch of the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT (BCSNI) have announced they will hold the IT Educators of the Year awards for 2022.
These awards will recognise and celebrate educators who innovate, challenge and embrace technology to encourage and support young people driving computing and digital education in schools.
The awards aim to showcase the inspirational individuals and acknowledge IT educators by highlighting and recognising their achievements. The winners will be announced at the Livestream ceremony during the Computing at Schools Conference in June.
The BCSNI IT Educator awards will be presented for primary and post primary. There will be two categories in each.
· BCSNI IT Educator in Computing 2022 - Primary sector
· BCSNI IT Educator in Digital Skills 2022 - Primary Sector
· BCSNI IT Educator in Computing 2022 - Post Primary
· BCSNI IT Educator in Digital Skills 2022 - Post Primary

These awards recognise those inspirational teachers who have gone above and beyond in raising awareness and deepening understanding of computing, computational thinking, and digital skills in schools and among their peers.
To apply for the awards visit the BCSNI website page BCSNI IT Educator Awards 2022, download the application form and return via email to secretary-ni@bcs.org no later than 5pm Friday 20th May 2022.
Providing the Education expertise on the judging panel alongside BCS NI Committee members Sinead Dillon and Claire MacManus, Helen Browne, Professor Jonathan Wallace UU and joined by Roisin Rice Vice Principal at Saint Mary’s College, Derry and Dr Irene Bell Head of STEM, Chair of Post primary education, and a Principal lecturer at Stranmillis University College. Dr Bell is also the Chair of Computing At School, CAS(NI).

Roisin Rice is a previous recipient of the BCS IT Educator of the Year Awards in 2019, while Dr Irene Bell has been the recipient of Teaching Awards in both 2005 and 2007 and the 'Blackboard Technology Award' (2013).
Dr Bell welcomed the awards, saying: “It is wonderful that a prestigious professional organisation as BCS The Charted Institute of IT is recognising, through these awards, the fantastic work that teachers in Northern Ireland are doing to advance the computing and digital literacy agenda in their schools and classrooms. There is excellent, innovative practice happening in our schools and I am excited to being involved in these events to recognise our teachers.”
