Five local tech events this week to help celebrate International Women's Day

  • International Women's Day 2020 takes place this Sunday on March 8th, with events scheduled this week around the world.

International Women's Day celebrates the achievements of women on March 8th each year with the goal of combatting gender bias in life and industries across the world. The day is marked by events and speeches all centred on a theme, with this year's theme of #EachforEqual highlighting ongoing efforts to create a gender equal world.

To help celebrate the day this year, here are five events running this week focusing on women in the Northern Ireland's tech scene. If you have an upcoming tech sector event celebrating International Women's Day 2020 that isn't listed on our events page, send the details over to team@syncni.com and we'll get it listed.

March 5th: International Women's Day - Breaking Barriers Together

"Join Clare Barnett from UN Women UK and inspiring leaders who will share their stories of breaking barriers.

The aim of the event is to engage women and their allies on the theme of International Women’s Day. We want to explore the barriers that women and girls experience and create positive actions for people to take forward to break down those barriers.

We are partnering with UN Women UK who are non-profit network with aim of removing the social and cultural barriers that prevent women and girls from achieving their potential. Clare Barnett will open the event looking at the theme of economic empowerment and how movements can help break barriers.

Women leaders from business, technology, academia and sport will give a seven minute insight to their experiences, followed by a panel discussion.

Finally, we will be asking you to think about the actions that you can take to create a more equal world.
